What are all the types of RSS feeds?
RSS has been in for quite a long time now. Do you know what types of RSS feeds are available nowadays in the SEO industry? First of all any RSS feed reader should be comfortable in reading all the types of RSS feeds. RSS feeds can be of the following three types; RSS 0.91, RSS 0.92, and RSS 2.0.
We start our discussion on type of RSS feeds from the first type.
RSS 0.91 is the easiest to work with and can be understood without much difficulty at all but it is also the one rarely found. Its features are very basic and we can have 15 items at the most in it in a single feed. This not only results in reduced length of the text titles used but also the descriptions cannot even be above 100 words. RSS 0.91 also does not support HTML.
RSS 0.92 is the extended type of RSS feeds in comparison with the RSS 0.91 and therefore provides a lot of extended features not available in its earlier version along with the supporting characteristic of HTML support. In this version items don’t need separate title or link and description includes both of these. There is also an enclosure tag which holds up the files being downloaded by the user besides the other items. And the last not the least notable feature of RSS 0.92 has been the removal of the “length restrictions” which were earlier present in the RSS 0.91 type of RSS feeds.
RSS 2.0 though originates as a separate kind of RSS but includes in itself all the features, which are present in RSS 0.92 along with some extra tweaks, added like categorization of feed, secure site support etc. This does not conclude that RSS 2.0 is nothing to do with RSS 0.91. RSS 2.0 has its root deep down from the same initial version of RSS 0.91.
